What I have been up to lately
Some of you have asked me what I have been up to since the launch of “The Elder Care Playbook.” Since the beginning of this year, I got involved as a consultant with a new non-profit organization here in Maui – Hau‘oli Piha.
The organization was brought to life “to promote and link evidence-based programs with individuals, families and the broader community, to relieve mental health afflictions and improve the joyfulness in their lives and help them stay connected to one another.”
One of their three programs is “Music & Memory Therapy”, which I strongly support. If you haven’t seen it yet “Alive Inside” is a powerful documentary showcasing how music can help Alzheimer’s patients open the door to their brains (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9IHUPamCB4).
I am super excited that some of our senior homes will eventually be offered access to the program. The other two programs, Social Media Disturbances/Electronic Addiction, and Nutrition Education are, of course, equally important to our community. Stay tuned as this is all evolving…
